-About The Camp
A week of half-day sessions where kids learn about the philosophical ideologies that shaped America's founding documents.
Every morning begins with a skit introducing concepts such as natural rights, the social contract, individualism, federalism, separation of powers, and checks and balances.
Kids will be introduced to philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Montesquieu through fun skits. They will also meet the Leviathan-conceptualized as a local celebrity in a blow up dinosaur costume! There will be a discussion following each skit led by the camp instructor that further explains the ideologies and answers questions. Each half-day event concludes after breakout sessions in which the kids play trivia and games to reinforce the concepts from that morning.
Through the skits, games, and discussions the kids will read the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers to recognize how our founding fathers included the concepts of American liberty and greatness in our founding documents.
A highlight of the camp are the many special guests that visit. Last year, the kids met and took pictures with Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Barbara Webb, Pastor Iverson Jackson, Lt. Governor Tim Griffin, State Senator Kim Hammer, Jan Morgan, and Romanian Refugee Marcela White.
Last year more than 70 kids memorized the preamble to the Constitution. For their hard work throughout the week, the kids earned stars which they were able to cash in on the last day for prizes at Constitution Store!
The camp ends on Friday with a guided tour of the Capitol followed by a party with water slides, a bouncy house, snow cones, and more! Don't miss this fun and educational camp!
